A brief history of Leitholm
Leitholm is a small village in the former county of Berwickshire, part of the parish of Eccles and closely linked to its neighbours Eccles and Birgham. Like much of the Borders, the area bore the scars of centuries of Anglo-Scottish conflict: a defensive peel tower that once stood just west of the village was reputedly destroyed in September 1545 during the Earl of Hertford's punishing two-day raid through the Scottish March, part of the wider campaign known as the "Rough Wooing."
Today Leitholm remains a quiet farming community, with the nearby Crosshall Cross — a medieval cross thought to date from the 12th century — and Hume Castle among the historic landmarks within easy reach.
