Reclaiming the space

Garages have a way of absorbing everything a house cannot hold. Boxes from a move that never got unpacked, tools inherited from a parent, tins of paint from a decorating job a decade ago, and the bikes the children outgrew. It builds up quietly until the car has not been in there for years.

A garage clearance is usually a single-visit job. We arrive, work through the space methodically, and separate as we go: things worth keeping, things worth donating, recyclable materials, and genuine waste. If you want to be there to make the calls, great. If you would rather give us a brief and come back to an empty garage, that works too.

Because we quote a fixed price up front, there is no meter running while you decide whether to keep the old lawnmower. We would rather you took the time and were happy with the result.

Chemicals, gas bottles and the awkward stuff

Garages hold more restricted waste than almost any other part of a house. Half-used paint tins, engine oil, weedkiller, car batteries, aerosols and gas cylinders all need specific handling, and none of them belong in a general waste load.

We will identify anything of that kind as we work, tell you what it is, and either take it where our licence allows or point you at the right route for it. Local household waste recycling centres accept most domestic chemicals free of charge, and gas suppliers will usually take their own cylinders back. It costs you nothing extra to have it done properly.

Asbestos is the one to be genuinely careful with, since older garage roofs and panels in this part of the Borders are often asbestos cement. We do not remove it, but we will recognise it and tell you before anyone disturbs it, which is a good deal safer than finding out afterwards.

Common questions

How long does a garage clearance take?

Most take between two hours and half a day. A double garage packed to the roof may take longer, and we will say so when we quote.

Can you take paint, oil and chemicals?

Some, depending on type and quantity. We will tell you exactly what we can take and where the rest should go.

Do I need to be there?

Not if you can give us access and a clear brief. Many customers leave a key and come back to a finished job.

Will you dismantle the shelving too?

Yes, if you want it gone. Just say so when you get your quote and it is included in the price.
